The biological outsourcing industry has promoted the pharmaceutical industry

Some of China's visionary economic development zones are committed to increasing investment in contract R & D outsourcing (CRO) and contract production outsourcing (CMO) institutions in the biomedical industry to promote the leap-forward development of the domestic biomedical industry. This strategy makes sense, because most CRO and CMO activities are often closely tied to innovation; on the other hand, China's huge market capacity has created an ability to check the feasibility of any new solution, and an innovation-friendly environment. From a top-level design level, the Chinese government's recently announced "Healthy China 2020" plan also gives a strategic meaning to the health care industry.
According to the forecast of the Italian Chemical General Pharmaceutical Association (CPA), in the next 3-4 years, the global market share of Chinese CROs and CMOs will increase from the current 7% -10% to nearly 20%. The main engine of high growth will come from China's top industrial parks and development zones, where innovation and R & D have become the top priority of economic development.
Take the Tianjin Economic and Technological Development Zone as an example. This industrial park has been selected by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce as the top industrial park in China every year since 1998. It promotes cross-border and interactive collaboration in R & D activities by enterprises in the park by creating an advanced industrial chain. For example, a joint laboratory for bioinformation computing established in the Tianjin Development Zone in 2012 used the "Tianhe-1" supercomputer, which was ranked second in the world at the time, to engage in biological science research. When doing human genetic information correlation analysis, the work that traditionally takes more than 300 days can be completed in just over three hours.
  Enhance the value of collaboration
In order to further promote the development of CROs and CMOs in China, it is essential to establish a synergy effect between enterprise clusters for industrial innovation. This is why we can see a diverse biomedical industry cluster in the Tianjin Development Zone - including both biological outsourcing companies andbiologicsChinese medicine companies, medical equipment manufacturers, and so on.
Clusters are not only conducive to synergies, but also can be more integrated to promote the development of local markets. Accenture's research shows that this trend will continue. Anne O'Riordan, Accenture's global managing director in charge of the life sciences industry consulting business, told Life Science Leader magazine: "A strategy that focuses on industrial clusters can help companies develop a more cohesive and customer-friendly industrial strategy."
Developing such industrial ties to create a benign industrial ecosystem is no easy task, but regions like the Tianjin Development Zone have achieved it in their own way. - The park helps establish closer ties between the settled enterprises and provides the infrastructure that CROs and CMOs need to thrive. One of the outstanding enterprises successfully incubated in the Tianjin Development Zone is Kellein Pharmaceutical Chemicals, which is engaged in biological outsourcing. Through the help of the park, the company also successfully obtained a RMB loan of 3 million yuan (about 470,000 US dollars) from China Development Bank - the signing of this loan also has a positive radiation for other enterprises engaged in biological outsourcing, and has led to the upgrading and internationalization of the overall biomedical industry.
Li Hongliang, deputy general manager of the Technology Development Group of the Development Zone, said: "For the survival and development of pharmaceutical companies, it is not enough to have top-level'hardware facilities', but more importantly, an overall support plan." He introduced that the comprehensive support system provided by the Tianjin Development Zone for pharmaceutical companies covers many fields such as patent application, capital raising, talent support, intellectual property, marketing and business development, legal and environmental policy compliance.
Looking forward to a bigger leap
The ecosystem strategy has brought many beneficial nodes and ties: promoting innovative and win-win cooperation between international excellent pharmaceutical brand companies and domestic companies in China. In May 2012, Canxino Biotechnology, a company in the Tianjin Development Zone, successfully signed a contract with Aeras of Maryland, USA, to jointly promote the research and development of the tuberculosis vaccine Ad5Ag85A; and thanks to the full support of the park to enterprises, these vaccines are now about to enter the clinical trial period.
In fact, in 2013 alone, more than 10 new drugs were approved for clinical trials in the entire development zone, and more than 10 R & D projects were selected as China's new drug creation national major scientific and technological special projects.
By 2015, the biomedical output value of Tianjin Development Zone will reach an average annual growth of 25%. By then, the annual output value of more than 500 million yuan (about 79 million US dollars) of large-scale production enterprises is expected to exceed 20, more than 30 R & D institutions, biomedical high-tech enterprises more than 150; R & D investment in the zone is expected to account for 10% of sales revenue... More collaboration and biomedical innovation will make the world wait and see.
