How can I make my flower arrangement last longer?
Most homeowners keep one or more bottles of flowers at home, and fresh flowers have a short lifespan, ranging from a week to about two days. Especially in summer, the flowering period will be even shorter. Plants produce nutrients through photosynthesis during growth. When the flowers are picked, the source of nutrients is cut off and cannot meet the needs of flowering, and the flowers are prone to wither.
Step 1: Early morning cutting
Cut obliquely with a sharp knife and cut off the end of the stem by about 2 cm to make the incision smooth and increase the water absorption area. Cut the cuttings at the end of the morning dew, cut off the leaves in the water part of the flower branch brand to prevent rot, and insert them into the water immediately after cutting, so as not to affect the life of the flower arrangement due to excessive water loss. For flower branches with a lot of liquid juice, such as poinsettia, etc., it is not advisable to insert them into the water immediately after cutting, but to cut off the cut surface into the candle or alcohol lamp flame and charred. Then cut off some of the charred part, then disinfect it and wash it with water, and finally insert it into the water to prevent it from withering due to excessive loss of liquid juice. Wooden can cut off the epidermis at the end or cut it into a cross incision. If it is too thick, the end can be
Step 2 Configure a sterile solution
1% alcohol and 0.1% sugar, and then insert flowers into this solution to prolong the flowering period. Adding acetic acid, citric acid or bleach to water can inhibit bacterial growth, but the concentration should not be too high.
3. Use appropriate water
Water is the key to prolonging the life of flower arrangements. When arranging flowers, clean river water, rainwater or pond water close to room temperature should be used. If using tap water, you must put it in a tank (bucket) for 1 day before using it. At the same time, pay attention to changing the water frequently, remove residual flowers and leaves in time, and cut short flower branches appropriately to facilitate flower absorption and prolong the life of flowers. Some flowers are prone to wilting due to high temperature. You can soak their stems and leaves in water to increase the water absorption area. Some flower pedicels are hollow and prone to water loss. You can pour water into the pedicels with a water gun or syringe, and then plug them with cotton to prolong the flowering period.
Step 4 Avoid direct sunlight
After the water bottle is inserted into the cut flower, do not put it in direct sunlight, nor should it be placed close to the heating source, otherwise the flowers will die early. In addition, it is not advisable to place the cut flower arrangement near the ripe fruit, otherwise it will accelerate the shedding of the petals. Such as roses, carnation, narcissus, freesia, lilies, and gypsy stars are very sensitive to the gas released by the fruit.
5. Add an appropriate amount of tablets to the water
Half a tablet of powdered aspirin, or one tablet of vitamin C, or an appropriate amount of boric acid, sulfur or 0.1% table salt in 500 grams of water can prolong the flowering period. Applying items (such as salt, alcohol, alum, mint, oil, etc.) to the incision can inhibit the growth of bacteria and prolong the life of the flower.
