  The color reflects the appearance index of the water body. In natural water, it often shows different colors such as light yellow, light brown or yellow-green. The reason for the color is caused by humus, organic matter or inorganic matter dissolved in the water. When the water body is polluted by industrial wastewater, it will also show different colors. These colors are divided into true color and surface color. True color is caused by dissolved substances in the water, that is, the color after removing suspended solids in the water. Surface color is the color produced when no suspended solids in the water are removed.
  The chromaticity of water is an indicator when quantitatively measuring the color of natural water or treated water. The color produced by the substance in the solution state is called "true color"; the color produced by the suspended substance is called "false color". Suspended solids in the water sample must be removed before measurement.
  The national standard methods for determining the color of water are the platinum diamond colorimetric method and the dilution multiple method. The platinum diamond colorimetric method is suitable for the determination of cleaner natural water and drinking water with a yellow hue. The dilution multiple method is suitable for the determination of the color of surface water and industrial wastewater polluted by industrial wastewater.
