Titanic Relics Auction: Titan
A key to a life jacket cabinet on the Titanic, which was kept by Sydney Sedunali, a third-class flight attendant who died in the disaster, sold for 85,000 pounds at an auction in Divezzis, England, on Monday.
Andrew Aldridge, an auctioneer, was quoted by the Daily Mail as saying that Sedunari had "sacrificed himself to save others". The key was also auctioned off with about 200 items related to the Titanic. A set of letters from Henry Wilder, the ship's second-in-command, was auctioned for £5,000, including one that read: "I still don't like this ship... I have a strange feeling about it." A postcard from Jack Phillips, a senior radio operator who was 25 at the time of his death, fetched £19,000 (157,000 yuan). The young sailor, described by survivors as "the man who saved us all", persisted in sending distress signals to other ships as the ship began to sink.
