HPPH是一种二氢卟酚，当用655nm的光刺激时，在光动力疗法（PDT）中起到光敏剂的作用。全身给药时，HPPH在肿瘤细胞中积聚，当在有氧的情况下用光刺激时，产生活性氧（ROS），导致肿瘤内坏死。HPPH 以 0.5 mg/kg 的剂量增加神经胶质瘤裸鼠模型的存活率。它与吉西他滨在几种胰腺癌细胞系中协同作用以诱导细胞死亡。
