Benzyl-PEG6-Ms is a PEG derivative containing a benzyl protecting group and a mesyl group. The benzyl moiety can be used as an alcohol protecting group and can be removed via hydrogenolysis. The mesyl group is a good leaving group for substitution reactions. The hydrophilic PEG linkers increase the water solubility of the compound in aqueous media. The water solubility properties of the PEG linker are enhanced with longer PEG chains.
