The substrate is colorless before reacting with peroxidase and produces a blue-green color reaction product after reacting with it. 1% sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) may be used to stop the reaction during end-point assays. Since this substrate produces a soluble reaction product, it is not recommended for immunoblotting or histochemical applications. Application: 2,2′-Azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) has been used as a peroxidase substrate in ELISA experiment. This substrate gives a green color soluble end product. It has also been used as a colloidal preparation spread over the standard media plates, to evaluate the lignin oxidation activity. Presence of green coloration of the substrate exhibits microbial laccase activity.
