Heraclenin also induces apoptosis. While imperatorin induces DNA fragmentation at the G1/S phase of the cell cycle, heraclenin induces DNA fragmentation at the G2/M phases of the cell cycle, thus despite a close structural similarity they induce apoptosis in mechanistically different ways.
