It has no fluorescence activity and will only emit fluorescence after binding to the cell membrane. It can detect the membrane potential changes of transient (millisecond) excitable cells quickly enough. In various tissues, cells, and cell membrane models, the fluorescence change amplitude of di-4-ANEPPDHQ is relatively uniform, and it usually shows 10% fluorescence change per 100 mV change.
