Recombinant Human Osteoprotegerin Protein

CAS number:unknown    molecular formula:

overview

compound introduction

Purity > 95 % by SDS-PAGE and HPLC analyses. Function Osteoprotegerin (OPG), also named osteoclastogenesis inhibitory factor (OCIF), and tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily member 11B (TNFRSF11B), is a TNFRSF11B-encoded protein in humans. Acts as decoy receptor for RANKL and thereby neutralizes its function in osteoclastogenesis. Inhibits the activation of osteoclasts and promotes osteoclast apoptosis in vitro. Bone homeostasis seems to depend on the local RANKL/OPG ratio. May also play a role in preventing arterial calcification. May act as decoy receptor for TRAIL and protect against apoptosis. TRAIL binding blocks the inhibition of osteoclastogenesis.OPG has been applied to decrease bone resorption in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis and in patients with lytic bone metastases.
