Hyaluronic acid (HA), commonly known as hyaluronic acid, was first discovered by Karl Meyer in bovine vitreous humor. Subsequent studies have found that HA is widely present in connective tissue, skin tissue, and nerve tissue. HA is the simplest non sulfated GAGs composed of disaccharide units (GlcUA β 1-3GlcNAc) composed of D-glucuronic acid (GlcUA) and N-acetylglucosamine (GlcNAc), which are repeatedly linked by β -1,4-glycosidic bonds. The molecular weight of HA is usually much larger than other glycosaminoglycans (100-1000 kDa), and it has superior hydrophilicity and viscoelasticity. It is widely used in the fields of regenerative medicine, drug delivery systems, and especially cosmetics. In addition, HA is also involved in many important physiological and pathological processes, such as wound repair, fertilization, cell proliferation and migration, cardiovascular disease, and cancer occurrence.
