本品可溶于乙二醇二甲醚、二甘醇二甲醚和四氢呋喃，微溶于乙醚。在干燥的空气中稳定，在潮湿空气中吸潮水解。和水剧烈反应，溶解度： 36g/100g THF (25°C)， 2g/100g 乙醚(25°C)， 41g/100g 二甘醇二甲醚 (25°C) 本品是一种温和的高选择性还原剂，在0℃的乙醚或二甘醇二甲醚中可还原酮，醛和酰氯，不还原脂肪酸酯和腈，但可还原脂肪酸和脂环酸的苯酯，还原四氢呋喃(开环)。 在医药、香料、农药、染料以及其他精细有机合成中用作还原剂。广泛用于甾体酮的还原。
