Anisaldehyde dimethyl acetal undergoes ytterbium-catalyzed tandem carboalkoxylation/Friedel–Crafts reaction with 1-phenylbenzylidenecyclopropane to yield 1-(p-anisyl)-2-(2-methoxyethyl)-3-phenylindene.
