It can be used to synthesize 2-(4-methoxybenzylidene)-N-(4-(N-(1-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-5-yl)sulfamoyl)phenyl) hydrazinecarbothioamide. It is also used as a stain for detecting non UV-active substances using thin layer chromatography (TLC).
