It also undergoes acylation at the α-carbon in the presence of MgCl2 and pyridine to give synthetically important intermediates. It can be used in Knoevenagel condensation with aliphatic, aromatic, and heteroaromatic aldehydes to produce α-alkylideneacetoacetates.
