能风化易溶于水，在100℃时失去6分子结晶水。易溶于水，溶于稀氢氧化钠溶液，不溶于乙醇和酸。水溶液呈碱性。露置空气中易吸湿潮解。具有去污、乳化、分散、湿润、渗透性及PH缓冲能力。较浓溶液对织物及皮肤有腐蚀作用。低毒，半数致死量(大鼠，经口)1280mg/kg。(无结晶水)。 分析试剂。织物防火剂。黏合剂。接合剂，硬化剂，增重剂，防火剂，填充剂，单倍体育种中配制砂培养基的微量元素，矿石浮选剂，石油精制。 Na2SiO3.9H2O可用于制备蜂窝多孔硅。九水偏硅酸钠结合氯化钴（CoCl2. 6H2O）可用于制备Co3O4纳米颗粒。该产品可用于赋予黄麻纺织品阻燃和抗菌性能。
