有轻微的硫醇臭。微吸湿。25℃时水中溶解度：16.3g/100ml，乙醇中溶解度：26.4g/100ml，微溶于乙醚。水溶液在或50～60℃时相当稳定，但当有氢离子存在时，很快分解产生硫化氢。最大吸收波长(水中)210、261、318nm(logε3.66、4.08、1.8)。有毒，最小致死量(大鼠，经口)200mg/kg。经试验表明，对实验动物有潜在致癌作用。有刺激性。用于分解氨基酸铜络合物。也用作聚合物的硫化剂、交联剂、橡胶助剂和医药原料。肝毒素和致癌剂，用于β-酮基酯的异构选择性还原。
