Molecular modeling studies suggest that lichen acids act indirectly via binding to allosteric sites on the protein surface of FAS-II enzymes. Potential toxicity of Evernic acid was assessed in human hepatocyte and cancer cells as well as in a zebrafish model. This study indicates there could be therapeutic and prophylactic potential of Evernic acid as an antibacterial and antiplasmodial agent. Evernic acid has also been evaluated for clastogenic and antiproliferative effects on human lymphocytes, however the investigation showed Evernic acid did not show a statistically significant inhibitory effect on lymphocyte cell proliferation at the applied concentrations.
