阿魏酸有有顺式和反式两种，顺式为黄色油状物，最大吸收波长（乙醇）316nm。反式为白色至微黄色正交针状结晶，一般系指反式体。溶于乙醇、热水和乙酸乙酯，稍溶于乙醚，微溶于苯和石油醚。最大吸收波长（乙醇）236、323nm.有刺激性。
