水合硝酸铬在空气中风化，失去部份结晶水，且易潮解。九水硝酸铬易溶于水、酸、碱、乙醇、丙酮，水溶液在热时呈绿色，冷却后又迅速变为红紫色。用于制取其他无机及有机铬化合物，制取催化剂及载体，用作阻蚀剂及媒染剂，用于玻璃工业、陶瓷彩釉；三价铬电镀用铬试剂。 硝酸铬（III）九水合物是一种水合铬盐。它通常在有机合成中被用作铬源。 应用 硝酸铬（III）九水合物（Cr (NO3)3.9H2O）可被用于： 通过热分解法合成纳米氧化铬（Cr2O3）。 制备用于乙烯聚合的铬(III)基Ziegler-Natta催化剂 合成多孔配位聚合物MIL-101。 可用于热分解法制备氧化铬纳米粒子。
