The [bdmim]BF4/toluene biphasic solvent forms an efficient system for the Negishi cross-coupling reaction between aryl zinc halides and aryl iodides. 1-Butyl-2,3-dimethylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate is a task-specific ionic liquid.
