丝氨酸蛋白酶，对非特异性底物 beta-酪蛋白具有蛋白水解活性。通过直接与 BIRC 蛋白（也称为凋亡抑制蛋白，IAPs）结合并抑制 BIRC 蛋白，导致 Caspase 活性增加，或通过不依赖 BIRC 蛋白抑制、不依赖 Caspase、依赖丝氨酸蛋白酶活性的机制，促进或诱导细胞死亡。在细胞凋亡过程中裂解 THAP5 并促进其降解。同工酶 2 似乎没有蛋白水解活性。
