DRB 敏感性诱导因子复合物（DSIF 复合物）的组成成分，该复合物可调节 RNA 聚合酶 II 的 mRNA 处理和转录延伸。DSIF 通过刺激 RNGTT/CAP1A 的 mRNA 鸟苷酸转移酶活性来正向调节 mRNA 的封顶。DSIF 还与负伸长因子复合物（NELF 复合物）协同作用，加强启动子近端位点的转录暂停。转录暂停可促进具有延伸能力的 RNA 聚合酶 II 复合物的组装。DSIF 和 NELF 通过抑制转录延伸因子 TFIIS/S-II 来促进暂停。TFIIS/S-II 在转录暂停位点与 RNA 聚合酶 II 结合，并刺激该酶的弱内在核酸酶活性。RNA 聚合酶 II 对被阻断的转录本的切割可促进从新的 3'末端恢复转录，并可能允许通过自然暂停位点重复尝试转录。DSIF 还能正向调节转录伸长，HIV-1 核转录激活因子 Tat 有效激活转录伸长也需要 DSIF。DSIF 的作用是抑制源自 HIV-1 LTR 的转录本的转录暂停，并阻止 HIV-1 转录本在终止序列上的过早释放。
