粘附蛋白是钙依赖性细胞粘附蛋白。在连接细胞时，它们优先以亲和方式与自身相互作用；因此，粘附蛋白可能有助于异质细胞类型的分选。CDH1 参与调节上皮细胞的细胞-细胞粘附、移动和增殖机制。具有强大的侵袭抑制作用。它是α-E/β-7整合素的配体。E-Cad/CTF2 可促进 Abeta 前体的非淀粉样蛋白降解。对 APP C99 和 C83 的生成有很强的抑制作用。翻译后：在细胞凋亡过程中或钙离子流入时，被膜结合金属蛋白酶（ADAM10）、PS1/γ-分泌酶和 Caspase-3 分解，分别产生约 38 kDa（E-CAD/CTF1）、33 kDa（E-CAD/CTF2）和 29 kDa（E-CAD/CTF3）的片段。在钙离子流入的诱导下，金属蛋白酶对β-catenin进行加工，从而破坏细胞与细胞之间的粘附性，随后将β-catenin释放到细胞质中。残余的膜束缚裂解产物通过细胞内蛋白水解途径迅速降解。Caspase-3 的裂解释放了细胞质尾部，导致肌动蛋白微丝系统解体。γ-分泌酶介导的裂解促进了粘连连接的解体。
