精细白色，蓬松，手感滑腻。易溶于热吡啶，微溶于热醇；热的植物油及矿油，几乎不溶于水、醚、氯仿、丙酮及冷醇。在空气中有吸湿性。加热至400℃时缓缓分解，可燃，遇酸或碱则分解,遇强酸分解为硬脂酸和相应的钙盐，无毒。在塑料、机械、橡胶、油漆油墨等行业作为润滑剂、滑动剂、热稳定剂、脱模剂、促进剂等。
