溶于醇，醚，丙酮，不溶于水。遇水分解。医药及染料中间体。用于全身麻醉药氯胺酮盐酸盐；非麻醉性镇咳药敌退咳等的生产。 2-氯苯甲酰氯在固-液相转移催化条件下以聚乙二醇-400 为催化剂与芳香胺、硫氰酸铵反应生成 N-芳基-N′（2-氯苯甲酰）硫脲。在聚苯乙烯基树脂的制备和再生过程中，2-氯苯甲酰氯会引起聚苯乙烯的酰化。
