呈强碱性，微有氨的气味，在潮湿空气中能强烈发烟。强碱性。能吸收空气中二氧化碳。能与水、醇和热丙酮混溶，不溶于苯和醚，几乎不溶于四氯化碳、正庚烷，有腐蚀性。0.1mol/L水溶液的pH为11。半数致死量(大鼠，经口)12.76g/kg。有腐蚀性。酸性气体吸收剂, 氧化剂，有机合成，软化及润滑剂。气相色谱固定液(最高使用温度60℃，溶剂为甲醇)，选择性保留和分离醇、二醇、胺、吡啶、喹啉、哌嗪、硫醇、硫醚和水。 Frequently used as a diluent for PNPP in ELISA assays.
