适用于测定0.1--0.0001%低水分含量，可直接测定出微克(μg,即1/1000mg)水分，对测定ppm级水分含量特别有利。我国已制订国家标准 GB 7600-1987《远行中变压器油水分含量测定法（库伦法）》，GB/T 3727-2003《工业用乙烯、丙烯中微量水的测定》中明确规定一卡尔费休库伦法代替原标准的卡尔费休容量法。库伦法利用阳极氧化碘离子所得碘和样品中水进行卡尔费休反应。阳极 2I--2e->I2 I2+SO2+H2O+3RN+CH3OH->2RN.HI+RNHS是石油、化工、电力、环保、医药、科研领域中微量水分测定的主要手段。如电力系统中使用的变压器油、气轮机油、透平油和抗燃油中微量水分均用库伦法分析，并用于乙醇汽油和变性燃料乙醇中微量水分的分析。用作有隔膜和无隔膜电解液。
