溶于水，溶液呈蓝色。不深于乙醇及其他有机溶剂。在酸性溶液中呈黄色，pH值6.5～8.8呈浅蓝色，pH值10.5～11.6呈灰色，pH值>17呈深蓝色，与Al3+、Ca2+、Cu2+、TaO 、Zr4+等形成紫色或蓝色水溶性配合物。水中溶解度: 460 g/L (20°C) 金属滴定指示剂。光度法测定Al3+、Ca2+、Mg2+、Hf4+、NbO 和Ti4+等的显色剂，络合滴定法测定Zr4+、Bi3+、Mg2+、Sc3+、Cu2+等的金属指示剂。
