聚四氢呋喃是由四氢呋喃单体经阳离子开环聚合得到的两端为羟基的均聚物。本产品为白色蜡状固体或无色均相透明液体。不溶于水和脂肪烃，易熔于醇类、酯类、酮类、芳香烃、氯化烃，其溶解度随着分子量的增加而降低。室温下，易吸收空气中的水分，其吸水性也随着分子量的增加而降低。高温下易燃。 PTMEG是生产氨纶和聚氨酸弹性体的重要原料之一，用作氨酯中的软段，能够提供聚氨酯产品良好的耐水解性、耐低温性及动态性质。也可作弹性体产品、合成革用树脂、弹性纤维（氨纶）的主要原料。
