唾液酸转移酶属于糖基转移酶家族，具有催化N-乙酰神经氨酸残基转移的能力。它是一种具有α--2,3-唾液酸转移酶活性、α-2,6-唾液酸转移酶活性、唾液酸酶活性和反式唾液酸酶活性的多功能酶。它的分子量大小为46.4 kDa，而pI和pH分别为5.94和7.5-8.5。 Sialyltransferases belongs to the glycosyltransferases family with the capability of catalyzing the transfer of N-acetylneuraminic acid residues. It is a multifunctional enzyme with α-2,3-sialyltransferase activity, α-2,6-sialyltransferase activity, sialidase activity, and trans-sialidase activity. It has a molar mass of 46.4 kDa, with pI, pH being 5.94 and 7.5-8.5 respectively.

生化机理

唾液酸转移酶可将Neu5Ac从CMP-Neu5Ac作为一种供体底物转移至包括糖蛋白、糖脂和寡糖在内的受体分子的β-D-半乳糖基-1,4-N-乙酰基-D-氨基葡萄糖末端。唾液酸转移酶可将Neu5Ac从CMP-Neu5Ac转移至受体分子（包括糖蛋白、糖脂和寡糖）的半乳糖基末端。
