受体型蛋白酪氨酸激酶 KIT 的配体。在细胞存活和增殖、造血、干细胞维持、配子生成、肥大细胞发育、迁移和功能以及黑色素生成的调控中发挥重要作用。KITLG/SCF 结合可激活多种信号通路。促进磷脂酰肌醇 3- 激酶调节亚基 PIK3R1 的磷酸化，进而激活激酶 AKT1。KITLG/SCF 和 KIT 还通过 GRB2 和激活 RAS、RAF1 以及 MAP 激酶 MAPK1/ERK2 和/或 MAPK3/ERK1 传递信号。KITLG/SCF 和 KIT 可促进 STAT 家族成员 STAT1、STAT3 和 STAT5 的活化。KITLG/SCF 和 KIT 促进 PLCG1 的活化，从而产生细胞信号分子二酰甘油和 1,4,5-三磷酸肌醇。KITLG/SCF 与其他细胞因子（可能是白细胞介素）协同作用。
