生化机理

具有多种生物功能的细胞因子。它是急性期反应的强效诱导剂。在 B 细胞最终分化为分泌 Ig 的细胞过程中发挥重要作用参与淋巴细胞和单核细胞的分化。诱导骨髓瘤和浆细胞瘤生长，诱导神经细胞分化作用于 B 细胞、T 细胞、肝细胞、造血祖细胞和中枢神经系统细胞。还可作为肌动素发挥作用。它在肌肉收缩后排入血液，能促进脂肪分解，改善胰岛素抵抗。

生物活性

Measured in a cell proliferation assay using T1165.85.2.1 mouse plasmacytoma cells. The ED50 for this effect is 0.2‑0.8 ng/mL. The specific activity of Recombinant Human IL-6 is >1.0 x 10^8 IU/mg, which is calibrated against the human IL‑6 WHO International Standard(NIBSC code: 89/548).
