可能参与分泌蛋白的分拣（相似）。可能参与前 B 细胞的生长。抗逆转录病毒防御蛋白，可阻止逆转录病毒从细胞表面释放。在病毒 VPU 蛋白感染 HIV-1 后通过 20S 蛋白酶体降解而耗竭。在感染人类卡波西肉瘤相关疱疹病毒（KSHV）后，通过泛素化和随后的降解被消耗掉。可能在类风湿性关节炎的 B 细胞活化中发挥作用。翻译后：被 KSHV E3 泛素蛋白连接酶 K5 单泛素化，导致其靶向晚期内体并降解。GPI 锚点对其抗病毒活性至关重要。
