The compound is reported to be converted to the active form, Enalaprilat , through hepatic hydrolysis. Studies indicate that Enalapril downregulates the expression of IL-beta, IL-6, and NF-kappaB. Further studies show that Enalapril upregulates the expression of VEGF and heme oxygenase-1.
